Workers’ Compensation Classification Code Handbook

Classification codes are based upon industry standards and are used in the calculation of contribution, the determination of rates and reporting to MCIT’s reinsurer and other regulatory authorities. This handbook provides MCIT members with general guidelines to identify appropriate workers’ compensation classification codes for employees.

Classification and Minimum Payroll for Certain Employees Changed in 2024

Due to changes in payroll classification requirements by our reinsurer, MCIT adjusted the classification codes used for some employees and adjusted the minimum payroll used for elected or appointed officials in 2024.
