
This hybrid seminar, led by Minnesota Department of Administration Data Practices Office staff, provides responsible authorities, their designees and others who work with personnel data with the foundation they need to meet the requirements of the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA) as it pertains to personnel data.
The training offers:
Participants can choose to attend in person or online. Online attendees may not be able to participate fully in seminar activities.
Note: This workshop is an advanced training and assumes participants are familiar with the basics of the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. Participants who are new to the MGDPA are encouraged to attend Intro to Data Practices presented by the Department of Administration, Data Practices Office in June, view Minnesota Government Data Practices Act: The Basics previously presented by MCIT or review other MGDPA resources from MCIT and/or the Data Practices Office.
This seminar is specifically designed for those who work with personnel data. This may include the following roles:
Introduction to Personnel Data (Minn. Stat. § 13.43): Overview and background information on classifications of data about government employees under Minnesota Statutes, Section 13.43.
Tennessen Warnings: What a Tennessen warning is and its use in Minnesota government employment.
Responding to MGDPA Requests for Personnel Data: Best practices for responding to MGDPA requests for personnel data, including details when the request comes from the data’s subject and a third party.
Employee Investigations and Discipline: Requirements for data related to employee investigations and discipline.
Accuracy and Completeness Challenges: Overview of the accuracy and completeness challenge process and best practices for responding to a challenge.

Do I need special software to attend the virtual training?
No, but you will need to allow GoToWebinar to operate on your computer temporarily (just during the event). If prompted while logging in to the webinar, click “yes,” “grant,” “trust,” etc. to accept the download.
How do I submit a question during the virtual training?
Use the Question feature in the GoToWebinar panel that appears on your screen after you join the session. Just type your question in the message field, choose to send to presenters and organizers, and then click send.
My colleagues want to attend the virtual training. Can I forward the “join webinar” link that I received in my confirmation e-mail to them?
No. Each attendee receives a unique URL (link) for the live virtual workshop. Your colleagues must register separately to be able to participate. Send your co-workers the registration link instead.
